Garrett Vortex: The Metal Detector That Grows With You

The American brand Garrett introduces the revolutionary Vortex series, a lineup of metal detectors designed to evolve alongside your skills. The series includes three models: VX5, VX7, and VX9. Each device combines advanced multi-frequency technology with a sleek, modern design. What makes it unique? You can upgrade your detector via software updates without needing to buy a completely new unit.

Durable and versatile: Ready for any environment

All Vortex detectors come equipped with a 21.5 x 28 cm Raider DD search coil, a versatile coil suitable for various soil conditions. The sturdy, three-piece telescopic shaft with twist-locks ensures stability and easily collapses to 63 cm for transport, extending up to 144 cm when in use. The bright, backlit display remains clear even in low-light settings. The fresh blue accents complete the sporty, modern look.

Vortex VX5: A smart start with upgrade potential

The VX5 is the perfect entry-level model for beginners looking to start with future growth in mind. It offers both a single 13 KHz frequency and a multi-frequency search option. Features like ground balance, metal discrimination, and numeric target ID (1-99) help you search effectively. Three different audio tones give extra clues about the metal type. Choose from four preset search modes. The unique feature: you can upgrade the VX5 via software to the more advanced VX7 or VX9, allowing your detector to evolve with your experience.

Vortex VX7: More control and depth

The VX7 expands your options with two single frequencies (5 and 13 KHz) plus two multi-frequency modes (Multi and Multi-Salt). Reaction speed can be adjusted in two steps for precision in difficult conditions. Two separate target ID bars clearly distinguish iron from precious metals. It offers five audio tones instead of three and supports wireless Z-Lynk headphones. The special “Beach” mode optimizes performance on wet sand and saltwater environments.

Vortex VX9: Top performance for the demanding hunter

The VX9 is the flagship model, offering five individual frequencies (5, 9, 13, 18, and 25 KHz) alongside the two multi-frequency modes. Three separate target ID bars allow even more precise metal identification—iron, precious metals, and uncertain signals are displayed separately. Reaction speed is adjustable in three steps for maximum control. With seven search modes including “Thin Coins” for very thin coins and the ultra-fast “Fast” mode, this detector is extremely versatile.

Multi-frequency and single frequencies: The best of both worlds

For general coin and jewelry hunting, 13 KHz is ideal. For detecting larger objects deeper underground, a lower frequency such as 5 KHz is recommended. Higher frequencies above 20 KHz are best for very small, shallow targets like fine gold jewelry. All Vortex models can also operate in simultaneous multi-frequency mode, searching on multiple frequencies at once (from 5 to 25 KHz). This combines the advantages of depth and sensitivity to maximize detection performance and find even tiny targets at greater depths.
